What is the Metaverse? Can it benefit you?
See why the Metaverse is the next big thing and how it could benefit you. In this article you will also find answer to: how does the metaverse work?
Metaverse — you probably heard this word several times lately. If you use Whatsapp or facebook, you may have noticed that the company changed its name to META to reflect its new vision and commitment to the metaverse.
The Metaverse is a digital universe inhabited by digital representations of people, places, things and eventually just about everything that exist in the real universe. Think of it like a revolution of the internet. Different types of technology including virtual reality, augmented reality, video and fast internet makes this possible. The metaverse is here and you can actually go into that space to communicate, share, learn, entertain, explore, play games and work with others. It’s an internet that you can interact with — like we do in the physical world. You can join a meeting remotely but be in the same room to collaborate with your co-workers.
When you play a game with friends, you’ll feel like you’re right there together with them. That’s what the metaverse is all about.
The best way to understand the metaverse is to experience it yourself. But that’s a little tricky, because the metaverse doesn’t fully exist yet. What parts of the metaverse are in place? How will it feel like to work, play and do business in the metaverse in a few years? So let’s start by exploring how different aspects of metaverse experiences could feel like.
SOCIAL INTERACTION
When it comes to social interaction in the metaverse, you will feel like you’re right there with other people. You’ll see their facial expressions, their body language, and there will be avatars will be living 3D representations of you, your expressions, your gestures, that are going to make interactions much richer than possible online today. You’re gonna have a wardrobe of virtual clothes for different occasions. You could also bring things from the physical world into the metaverse, almost any type of media that can be represented digitally, photos, videos, art, music, movies, books, games and stuff like that. Teleporting around the metaverse is going to be really quick like clicking a link on the internet.
ENTERTAINMENT
Imagine your best friend is at a concert somewhere across the world. Now in the metaverse you can just teleport and join your friends in a party. And when you go to the party, you could connect with other fans, you could buy mesh and feel the presence of others around you as if you are right there with them in the real world. You can imagine how the metaverse is going to enable richer experiences, adding new layers to the world that we can interact with. Creators and artists are going to able to connect to their audiences in new ways, and really bring them into these shared experiences.
GAMING
When it comes to gaming, the metaverse is going to build on the huge advances of current gaming platforms. Probably gaming is how people are going to step into the metaverse for the first time. It already has some of the most fully built-out digital goods, the most active creator and developer communities. And major platforms like Epic are working to build up the metaverse, starting with gaming. Microsoft has acquired Activision Blizzard, which is a huge metaverse gaming play.
FITNESS
You’ll be able to work out in new ways, even against an AI. Some use Peloton with a bike, but in the metaverse you just have your VR headset and with it you can do anything, from boxing lessons to sword fighting to even dancing. And that’s what fitness will be like in the metaverse. Now, I think we’re going to see a lot more unique experiences emerging around fitness that take advantage of the full immersion and interactive training that fitness in the metaverse will offer.
In the metaverse, from social interaction to fitness, gaming, work, education, ecommerce, all of these will possible that we didn’t imagine before. Talking about shopping, imagine walking into Walmart in the metaverse and you can have a real feel of the items you want to buy, you can pick them up, look at them and all of that. It is going to be a whole different kind of experience. Now you see why the metaverse matters.
